Memorabilia Memorabilia

Memorabilia

In Memorabilia, a daughter mourns the loss of her father, a passionate collector of space memorabilia, as she falls under the sway of the 'flown' space objects in her inheritance.

Voiced by award-winning Australian actor Matilda Ridgway, Memorabilia draws on the Powerhouse museum's incredible collection of space ephemera to create an evocative hybrid documentary which blends fact and fiction. Combining fascinating archive with dramatic performance, the film interrogates how and why flown space memorabilia comes to be collected and stored for posterity, and why these objects exert such a strong pull on the human imagination. Memorabilia was imagined and created during co-directors Ceridwen Dovey and Rowena Potts' tenure as Powerhouse Research Fellows in 2022.

R.I.P MJangles

A music video filled with nostalgia and a touch of melancholy for Mike Osei's single, R.I.P MJangles. The video opens with Mike offering a heartfelt thank you, brimming with gratitude for his success and the greater things to come. We see shots of the Bronx, Jersey, and Harlem, places that hold a special place in his heart. The lyrics shift as Mike reflects on his sacrifices to get here. He raps about being ten shots deep, but even through the bravado, there's a sense of vulnerability. He questions his choices, acknowledging that he's strayed from the path he once envisioned. Despite the partying and the success, there's a hollowness that can't be ignored.

eternityintheirhearts

Ecclesiastes 3:11 reads “He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” (NIV) But it can also be translated as “but he has also placed ignorance in the human heart so that people cannot discover what God has ordained from the beginning to the end of their lives.” (New English Translation) Interestingly, “ignorance” can also be interpreted as “darkness.” This verse provided the inspiration for the work.

eternityintheirhearts explores the dichotomy between ideas of eternity and the realities of human limits. Human lives are described by the beats of each person’s heart. One day, those lives will end. Mortals exist in less than an eyeblink in the timescale of the universe, but they presume to bandy about terms like “eternity” and “infinity” like they can really wrap our heads around such limitless concepts. But wrapped in darkness, bound by the limits human lifespans, humans persevere. Humans build, but decay and nature pulls down. Even natural “permanence” will vanish in time. Yet despite the limitations and contradicting the darkness, humans look to the stars and realize that eventually, someday, the universe will end either by entropy or by cosmic egg. But will it be a true ending, or will the cycle begin again?
